LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT is a series of 12 x 45-minute progressive workouts, designed to build strength in science-backed phases. It is accessible to everyone, including experienced lifters and those just starting out who want to learn the fundamentals of strength training.
LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT is about building confidence while lifting weights. Hooking into the latest tracks and performing moves that are not in time with a beat, this is a whole new style of training. It’s been designed to attract new fitness fans and encourage them to embrace the unique benefits of group training.
What is the difference between LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT and BODYPUMP®?
Both workouts are based on science-backed strength training theories. However, BODYPUMP – the world’s most popular barbell workout – focuses on high repetitions with lighter weights. The format and moves are set to work to the beat of the music and new workouts are released every three months.
In contrast, LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT is a progressive strength program of 12 x 45-minute workouts (with no future workouts planned), and it enables participants to move at their own pace. The ‘progressive’ nature of this program means each workout focuses on a specific training protocol so that participants build strength as they move through the 12 workouts. Focuses range from foundational strength, to hypertrophy, to pure strength. The structure and feel are very different to BODYPUMP, as the music is there to provide great workout tracks rather than providing a beat to keep in time with. LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT uses time under tension and rep-ranges, depending on the prescribed protocol for each workout, to enable participants to increase their strength.

How often are new full sets of LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT released?
There are currently no plans to release more than the existing set of 12 workouts. Limited Edition Collection workouts are designed to be agile and meet shifting fitness preferences, which means launching a variety of on-trend workouts at different stages. We constantly monitor the needs of local markets and adjust our product pipeline accordingly, to ensure we only deliver programs that are in-demand and will deliver results.

How does Instructor training for LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT work?
The training pathway to become a LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT™ Instructor has been designed for maximum flexibility, convenience and speed. You'll complete pre-work, attend a five-hour Trainer-led online training session, and then you’ll have three days to practice, film and submit your assessment video. This pathway can see you teaching within two weeks!
Is there a cost involved to become certified in LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT?
Yes. Instructor training for LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT provides you with the full set of 12 workouts and includes all the resources and support you need to succeed. Reach out to your Group Fitness Manager to let them know you’re interested. The club will then need to get in touch with their local Business Partnership Manager in Australia or Southeast Asia to get the program into the club, and to arrange the required Instructor training.
When is Instructor Training available?
LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT will start rolling out in clubs as of October 2023. Instructor Training will be offered in accordance with regional rollouts. What is the planned lifespan of LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT?
A minimum of two years and once we test with customers, this feedback will help shape what it looks like in future alongside other Limited Edition Collection workouts.
